Lady Shri Ram College for Women

Lady Shri Ram College for Women, has long been recognized as a premier institution of higher learning for women in India. A centre for academic excellence and achievement, it is today one of the finest institutions for Social Sciences, Humanities and Commerce, while also offering a B.Sc. Programme in Statistics. Professional courses like Elementary Education and Journalism are among its strengths. Located at the cutting edge of knowledge, LSR has not just kept pace with the changing world, but has been the pioneering spirit behind many innovations in the field of education. The striving is to imbue the teaching/learning process with a unique blend of intellectual rigour and aesthetic and ethical engagement. Established in 1956 in New Delhi by the late Sir Shri Ram in memory of his wife, the college had its modest beginnings in a school building in Daryaganj, Central Delhi, with 243 students, 9 faculty, 4 support staff and 3 distinct courses of study. The aim of the institution was to provide access to higher education of quality to women. LSR is a testimony to the farsighted vision of its founder and his indefatigable enthusiasm to actualize his dream. Today, the college is located in a beautiful 15 acre campus in South Delhi, has approximately 2000 students, over 150 faculty, administrative and support staff and 16 courses of study. The College became a byword for academic and extra curricular achievement, under the inspiring Chairmanship of industrialist and philanthropist, late Dr. Bharat Ram. An enlightened and supportive Board of Governors, drawn from the fields of industry, law, journalism, academics and the bureaucracy, assists the Chairman in the running of the college.

Ranking Explanation
In the  year 2016, LSR has once again emerged as the top-ranking institution identified for Humanities and Social Sciences in India Today Group’s Best Colleges Survey conducted by the Nielsen Company. It has also been counted as the best among colleges offering a degree in Education, a course included in the survey for the first time.
Campus
The college is located in a large 15 acre campus in South Delhi. It has a computerised library with internet access. The library has around 98,000 books and 5,000 bound volumes and cassettes. The college is well known for promoting extracurricular activities. The college building is made of red bricks, giving it an old yet classy look. It has large lawns in front of the building. The classrooms are equipped with projectors. The college also has a seminar hall, a large auditorium and hostel for more than 300 outstation students.

Location Information:
Lady Shri Ram College for Women is located in Lajpat Nagar IV. It has a unique advantage, being set in the heart of bustling South Delhi while enjoying the calm of extensive grounds and gardens. The college is well connected with both domestic and international airports, railway stations, and the Inter-State bus terminus. At a convenient distance are hospitals, shopping centres and recreational facilities. 
 
 
Placement Cell
The Placement Cell serves as an interface between the students and the recruiters. Apart from bringing a varied list of recruiters to the campus, the Placement Cell also organizes internship opportunities for the collective student body. 
The Cell has had an unprecedented year in placements with the highest package, in the University of Delhi, of INR 29 lakhs being secured by Rhea Grover, recruited by the management consulting firm, Parthenon EY. Moreover, the Cell has facilitated placements of 112 students this year by hosting a plethora of first-time recruiters; BCG, Samsung, Grofers as well as previous associates such as McKinsey, Citi and the Big 4 Audit firms among many others. The Placement Cell also continues to collaborate with Swavalamban in its endeavour to seek employment for the differently-abled and the underprivileged. The internships segment of the Placement Cell hosts a variety of reputed firms as well as growing start-ups to conduct recruitment process to select interns. Internships too witnessed an unprecedented year with almost 200 offers of internships and social engagement opportunities across all years and departments from the college, at least 60% of which were paid. In fact, the highest stipend amount of Rs. 1,40,000 for two months was offered by first-time recruiter; Bank of America to one student. Another student bagged a 2 months internship opportunity given by Ernst and Young along with a prize of Rs. 1,00,000.
